"Philippine steamship Corregidor, crowded with about 1,200 passengers fleeing Manila for Mindanao, hits an Army mine off Corregidor and sinks with heavy loss of life. Motor torpedo boats PT-32, PT-34, and PT-35 pick up 282 survivors (196 by PT-32 alone) distributing them between Corregidor and the requisitioned French steamship Si-Kiang; seven of those rescued die of injuries suffered in the tragedy. Dr. Jurgen Rohwer, in his volume on Axis submarine successes, attributes the sinking to a mine laid by Japanese submarine I 124 on 8 December 1941 off Corregidor, P.I. Interestingly, Corregidor was formerly the British seaplane carrier HMS Engadine, which took part in the Battle of Jutland in 1916."

My newest photograph. The writer on the back spelled the ship's name wrong!

This is a photo from, likely, before the war. But I do not know when this photograph was taken.
Also, any way to safely remove the pen on the front from this glossy photo?

Edit: Photo 1 is the edited version.

Great photo and I would leave the pen mark there. That would be tough to do without causing damage.

      Thank you.

I am writing a book about WW2 in the Philippines, I would possibly like to use your picture of the SS CORREGIDOR.
Do I have your permission &, if so, how do I cite you as a reference?

      Thank you.

I would be greatly honoured. I will take a better photo if I can tomorrow, and I will see if my computer programs can possibly hide some of the damage.
      Keep this post handy.
I'm Robert Zavitz-- just a 19-year-old in Michigan. I guess it would just be, "From the collection of Robert Zavitz." That's how I usually see things.
Good luck with your book. I will include the photo link tomorrow or the next day.

      Robert,

I'll let you know if I use it.

      Thanks,

Ken, here is the best I can do to "hide" the damage:

      Robert,

Unfortunately I was not able to use your picture in my book. If I had included it (in the appropriate place), it would have totally thrown off the book's arrangement. I tried tried but no luck. I should be coming out with a second edition in 2-3 years. I'll try again to use it at that time.

      Regards,
      Ken

It's fine. Thanks for telling me.

      Robert,

It turns out that I will be including an addendum with my book. This addendum will be on a CD (rather than in print). It will contain additional information which I obtained after the book had gone to the printer. I plan to include your picture in the addendum with proper credit given to you. If you send me your email, I will send you a copy of the addendum as an attachment when I have it.
