I have to make a correction on this bowl that I thought was cocobolo all these years that’s actually teak.I even took it to a wood working shop that said it was cocobolo.Someone came by the house who works with exotic wood and said it was teak.He had all kinds of strips like you see for paint that had the different wood grains and this is teak.Sorry for the misinformation.I did find something interesting about larger bowls. You can count the rings on and get a rough date on how old the tree was.A relative bought this in the 1920’s that was older when he got it so it’s well over 100 years old with beautiful grain lines inside and outside. The expert showed me all the rings on the back and this was a very old tree.Yhe size of the bowl is 10 1/2" wide by 5" tall and there’s not a scratch on it anywhere. Thanks for looking.
These carved and turned bowls are called treen. They are usually found more at craft and artesan shows. Very beautiful.
Thanks Phil. For some reason I just got your comment even though you left it 2 months ago.I appreciate the information.
You can find treen artists nowadays at craft shows and a lot of pieces like this bowl would be quite expensive ! Amazing how thin some of these bowls can get.
