I found this old silver stick pin in a charity store and I have no idea what it represents but it is interesting.
It looks like an E within the letter C and I cannot see any marks or numbers.

Looks more like a horseshoe than a C. I think it might have belonged to a horse lover or perhaps it represents a stable. Often, smaller pieces of silver weren't hallmarked.
Interesting pin. I believe you have it correct with the "E" inside of a "C".
If it were meant to represent a horseshoe, I'd expect it to be displayed up or down-- to bring good luck versus sideways display.
As far as the initials and their meaning-- it could be a person's name or perhaps a school (College).

Horseshoes usually face upwards< U >it is considered bad luck to face a horseshoe in any other direction
Up or Down are the two ways I have seen depending on the area.
Some believe up holds the good luck, fortune.... for the person; others display it down so the good luck, fortune, etc... can shower down.

Hi Scott,I have a horseshoe from my childhood it hangs points upward high on my front door and I have always believed the old superstition if pointed downwards all good luck/fortune will wash away.
I think it is a preference as to which theory you adhere to but I do love horseshoes and the sybolisim they represent.

I know about the old superstition about the horseshoe position of up vs. down This particular shape just brings to mind the letter "C" fashioned in a design similar to a horseshoe. I didn't say it WAS a horseshoe.
I have a downward facing horseshoe, attached to a rush plaque, hanging on the stairway wall. No bad luck here. :-)))

It is a C designed to look like a horse-shoe because the artist takes creative liberties.
