This is my prize for today! The unusual brooch was lying in a box of costume jewelry. It's 4 1/4 inches long. There are two very minor issues: the pin has been soldered together in the middle, I imagine a long time ago, and the glass dangle is a bit damaged at the top.

    So what. :-))))))

I have never seen a piece of jewelry even remotely close to the design of this one. The arrowhead slides up and releases the pin. I'm going to try and track down the maker, H&T. Not a clue about the country of origin.
The "H&T" comes up on the web as Hilliard & Thomason, Birmingham.

UPDATE> this is what I found on eBay for a different brooch carrying the same info:

"Stunning Antique early Victorian circa 1848
    Buckle Brooch Pin
with a touch of royal blue enamel
Type: Brooch/ Pin Country/Region of Manufacture: United Kingdom
Sub-Type: Early Victorian 1848 Metal: Silver
    Designer: H & T Hilliard & Thomason

We have great pleasure in presenting this early Victorian brooch, some 165 years old.
Very rare design maybe unique, created by Birmingham silversmiths Hilliard & Thomason,
possibly for display on their stand at the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London.

(some blah blah blah and then this):

The rare if not unique Victorian brooch is detailed by the maker on the back,
with his mark & stating a registered design & dated 30 March 1848.
Not hallmarked as this was not a requirement in UK law until 1972/3."

    And Bob's your uncle!

    Thanks for looking.
    ~Bonnie

How about you don't tell us how much you paid for these incredible things? This is a most unusual pin - have you seen a date written out that way before - no need to look for worn away hallmarks. I like it a lot!
Efesgirl - I'll stay away from AM altogether, I think that's best thing to do. Thanks for your good advice.

Hugs to you, Gillian! LOL I love to see the prices others have paid for wonderful, off the wall items. To think I might need to spend a small fortune to acquire an item takes all the fun out it for me.

I have never seen any piece of jewelry with that kind of information on it. There is no silver hallmark anywhere, only the information that the pin is registered. The pin is definitely silver.
