Not 100% sure what this could have been used for. Found it in an old rock fence. It wasn't stuck in the ground. It was just laying in between the layers of rock as if it was misplaced or left behind. Seems very old. Very heavy. Appears to have been tapered to a chisel-like end, but the tip is broken off. 10-12" in length.
Could be a rail spike.
I agree with Caperkid - railroad spike was the first thing that came to mind.
railroad spike
OH ! I was looking at the banana ! Yeah, rail spike.

Had the munchies when I clk'd on this !
lol....it must be 4-20 somewhere !!!
it seems a lot longer than any railroad spike I've ever seen
and this wasnt anywhere near a railroad..
Antiquerose, it's 4-20 every Sunday afternoon. As long as the brownies last ! Friend said he will bring or send more soon.
Since it was in the rock fence, I think it was used as a chisel to break off pieces of rock to make the rock fit in the fence as they built the rock fence. It looks as if it has been hammered on.
