Hello while out over the weekend ,doing the car boot sales I came across what I think to be Satsuma Biscuit Barrel ? and for some reason although it looks modern /repro it looks ratherly crude in its making ,there is something about it would love for anyone to help with the translation of the writing on the lid ? It is in great condition and the decoration is of a Cockle on the lid as the handle and on the side it has a warrior then on the other side a samurai man dress in decorative dress any help in dating would be of great help .
    Thanks Colin

Definitely Satsuma style, but it may not be Satsuma. I lacks the Shimazu mon both in the moriage decoration and the mark. The mark reads, right stack, Dai Nihon, Great Japan. For the left stack, the first two kanji are not in Gotheborg Satsuma and are the artist or kiln. The bottom kanji reads Zo, made. Date for this would be Meiji, 1868 to 1912, possibly a little later but not much. Nice find and very nice piece.
