This Item belongs to a friend of mine, it was left to her when her husband passed. There is no maker on the cutter so I do not know who made it. I also do not know the age. If anyone knows these things please let me know. There is no key with this and it is rusty. The piece is heavy cast iron and very ornate. The thing I like about this is, on top it clearly states "Cutter for cigars not fingers". The sides all mention that it is hand made by union workers, or maybe they mean the cigars are.
So don't put your fingers in hmm OK.
As it says, it is for trimming cigar tips. Usually found on counters of cigar stores. Most were made by Brunhoff of Cincinnati circa 1900. Worth more than one would think. Usually had a key fixed on the side of the mechanism. Does this have a square shaft for a clock key?
It's a cigar cutter ! Do you really want a key ? LOL !!
Thank you all, slackjack I want to say yes it does have a squar shaft for key, got one lol?
