Got these in a box lot several years ago at an auction in Pennsylvania. I do not know which language they are. The copper one seems to have had a loop on top as in a medal. The square hole resembles some Japanese coins I have seen. If anyone can enlighten as to the meaning of them, what is written on them, age, origin and /or value, if any, I would appreciate that. Thank you.
These are Japanese. The copper medal on the left features a kabuto, a samurai battle helmet. See more here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabuto
The coin on the right is Kanei Tsuho, and appears to be brass. but could be iron. 18th, 19th century, I would need to know the metal and to see the reverse to offer more.
Thank you 'wexval' for your timely and very informative response. Sorry mine was not as timely. I did read the link you provided. I also searched Kanei Tsuho. The coin is non magnetic and hence is the more valuable bronze as compared to the steel I believe.
I also took pictures of the reverse sides as suggested but cannot figure out how to add them to these comments.
