    Petitviole…
    (4 items)

I recently have saved yet another beautiful piece of history from a potential horrible demise. I feel I narrowed down a rare singer treadle. a vs2 with fiddle base, early model heel-toe mechanism, polished plain face plate and Victorian decal. from what I read manufactured in Scotland based on details. The patent plate states oct 15th 1886 and serial number 8819191. This beautiful item is fully functional , limited wear, original. It even has all it's attachments with only it's manual missing. I have contacted singer sewing info UK and will update accordingly. I guess the only left is to sew.

    Update
Singer sewing info UK has dated my piece
    Vs2 circa 1889

    Thanks for looking

It's a great save. Wonderful the enamel and woodwork that went into these machines - things of beauty, not just utility.

I agree. It has a nice spot in my hallway. I really like wrought iron and the craftsmanship blends in nice with any spot in the house.

I have a question about the cast iron base the part that attached to the foot pedal to the turning wheel is it wood or metal? i have a Cast Iron base and I've been trying to figure out roughly how old it is. I haven't found any information on when they started or switched to the wooden pieces. Yours kind of looks like the wood one i have. If you have any info yourself id love to know!!!! Thank you

Petitviolette -- I have recently bought this same machine, but my base looks like a very different wood than yours...maybe mahogany? Mine definitely has layers of old wax and dirt. I would like to clean it up, but am afraid I might mess it up. How did you restore the finish on your cabinet? And how did you clean the machine without messing up the decals?
      Thanks!

I have this model with a different base serial 8999775. I too have difficulty finding a manual for it. I have a tin container of parts and it’s in working condition.

      Hi, Sewvintageous. :-)

Per the International Sewing Machine Collectors' Society's Singer serial number tables, 8999775 would be in the same range as 8819191 (circa 1889):

      *snip*

      8,615,500 9,436,999 1889

      *snip*

The vintage sewing machine enthusiasts at victoriansweatshop dot com have several PDF copies of manuals for the Singer VS2:

      https://www.victoriansweatshop.com/post/singer-vs2-manual-8510158

They even have a manual for attachments:

      https://www.victoriansweatshop.com/post/singer-vs2-attachments-manual-1888-7958658

FYI, I was able to download theses manuals using my Android smart phone, but when I tried it using my Windows hybrid, it wanted a login.
