These beautiful horses stand about 2 1/2 inches high. I thought at first that they were made of resin, but now I know they are ivory.

There is a name on the bottom of the back hoof of the lighter colored horse. Looks like "H. Zail" or "Z. Hail" . It's also possible that I'm looking at it upside down, too. :-))) The signature is very hard to photograph.

Thanks in advance for any help, CW friends!

      These are beauties!
Natural material, but can't see any clues for id... Right, they are tea or Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) stained.
The balance and attitude are so naturalistic... you stole them ;-)

Oooo I like these a lot

kyra - I took more photos, so I will put up a Part II. Maybe the new photos will help. All I can tell you is that the material is bright white (where it can be seen), cold, hard, dense and very smooth.

KYRA - I found this carved horse. This one is not stained, but the position of the horse is the same. I wonder if my horses originally had stands.

Not sure if yours had stands, but think they may well be Chinese.
It must exist a story or legend about two prancing horses :-)

They are just wonderful - such a great find. I think they look Chinese.

kyra - those horses are similar. If I could figure out the darned name on the hoof, I might find out something more.

racer4 - I think they are, too, now that I've seen other photos of similar horses.

      thanks, SEAN68!
