This is what I keep here at the fort. This is the original version of the Mossberg 590 as opposed to the 590A1 which is the current mil spec shotgun. This one used to be until 2002 I think. Needed a stronger trigger or trigger guard or some such.
The most fun feature of this shotgun is that it has a bayonet lug. Not all that useful but looks cool. Also cool looking is the polka dot heat shield around the barrel. Those used by the military tend to loose the heat shield as they tend to try and lighten their loads where possible.
And then there is the ability of it to hold 9 rounds of 2 3/4" ammunition including one in the chute ready to fire. Plus it holds 4 rounds in the stock. I keep slugs in there, seems a good spot for special ammunition.
It holds 8 rounds of 3" magnum shells. Shoots it all, does have a bit of a kick.

Always remember to fire a warning shot. I prefer to make it the last one !

the Mossberge 590 is an excellent combat / home defense shotgun, I use to own one myself years ago, I remember mine had a black plastic spacer so the heat shield doesnt slide forward from recoil, I like the Mossberge action, it's very smooth and reliable, I traded mine in for the H&K / Benelli M1 Super 90 semi auto police shotgun.

looks nice with the bayonet , heat shield, and special buttstock with extra ammo , I remember reading about the Mil Spec version having a slightly thicker barrel, and the safety was made of metal instead of plastic?

Thank you very much battlegear. This one was mil spec but they changed the specs. And yes it is the barrel and safety and now the 590A1 is the mil spec version.
I trust you are enjoying you Benelli M1 Super 90.
