I think this is a Marmot. Anyway it is a large rodent about 18"ong. Probably would have weighed over 10 pounds. Marmots are related to Woodchucks, Groundhogs etc.
This one is very well done with a nice base.
Yes I probably should not have bought it but I can not resist an unusual piece of taxidermy like this. Something like this would cost a few hundred $ to have preserved like this, it is not exactly a trophy animal. Possibly from a small museum.
There is a chipmunk in photo 3 to show the size.
Have to say, not usually a fan of the dead things but I think this is a nice one.
I think too it is a marmot, thinner after hibernation :-)
Nice piece!
Glad that "Chuck" now has a good home. :-))) I have a taxidermy baby duck in my display cabinet, found at a flea market.
During mating season I see these furry critters all over the mountains around here. No gophers though.
Thank you very much elanski. Works well where I put it.
Thank you very much kyratango. And for the ID confirmation.
Thank you very much brunswick. I imagine they do.
Thank you very much Efesgirl. You can join my dead things club.
Thank you very much Caperkid. Gophers are horrible creatures. I have to wrap everything in gopher wire when I plant.
Thank you
