    Could this be a converted hat badge? Not many to be found. Was found at yard sale in Bar Harbor Maine. Very interesting as the entire town burned in 1947.

      1.3/4 either direction, seems to be converted hatbadge, but would like to know exact age.

      Yes if the center dot on the back is what is left of a screw post. No if that dot is solder coming out of a hole.

      I just enlarged the picture and YES, the badge was originally a hat badge. Note the dot at 12 o'clock on the back which is where a spike was mounted to keep the badge from rotating when it was mounted through the hole in a hat by screw post and nut.
