So here is a necklace made of black heavy beads with beautiful cloisonne beads and an old fashioned fish hook clasp. The beads are dense, cold and heavy, they have no surface wear, so I don't think they are glass. Well constructed, double twisted strand of silk tightly knotted, beads are precisely drilled, the only wear is the gilt on the clasp. The cloisonne beads have a raised floral decor, the wires are individually carefully placed, nice enamel work, borders and background all gilt. 18", no markings. What do you think, is this Asian? The clasp suggests vintage. What are the black stones? Any help greatly appreciated. It's a beauty, I hope you enjoyed seeing it, and thanks for looking.
I'm no expert,...but,...I'll take a stab at it,...Onyx?

AP, that's what I lean toward, just don't know enough about onyx to say for sure. :)
Beautiful necklace, love the cloisonne beads with fresh colors :-)
For me it is onyx, usual for this style!
The clasp doesn't look as the usual chinese ones, but can't say for sure...
I also vote for onyx. Beautiful!

kyratango, thank you, it is a beauty, isn't it? :) So it could be onyx, you think? Okay, I'll have them looked at, thanks! :) As to the clasp, well I'd thought this was a Japanese necklace and hence the clasp, but that goes to show how much I know about these things. Thanks for the heads up! :)
Thanks, Bonnie, for the compliment, and your vote! :)
Shimmerlings say:
" Onyx is said to banish grief, enhance self-control, stimulate the power of wise decision making, as well as to assist one in absorbing the energies of the universe that one most requires."
I'm not sure about crystal powers but it won't hurt to wear this next time you go shopping. Besides, you will look fabulous!

Karen, what neat properties for a stone to possess! It certainly wouldn't hurt to wear it, however I don't dare as I am prone to losing things! :/ But couldn't you just see this with a black dress? :)
