This a neat little compote made by the Hawkes Cut Glass Co of Corning NY. The pattern is called Caroline and dates from 1911. Hawkes cut some of the most important and rare patterns during the American cut glass period, 1875 - 1915.

I just purchased this Compote at an Estate Sale for $23. Was this an ok price? Is the piece actually signed or is that part of the name?

Hi Pat............$23.oo is a great price unless the piece is chipped up or cracked. There is an "acid stamp" on the base of mine which reads "Hawkes." the marks can be very hard to see. Rotate the piece in good light so the light shows a reflection then start looking. Mark

Hi Pat, I have been looking at many different patterns on the internet. I was wondering if you ever found anything else about your very attractive compote? Could you find the makers mark?
