Fleamarket…
(1 item)
This belonged to my great grandmother in Louisiana and was passed down to me. It is covered with tin over wood embossed with black and silver. The locks say PATJUL 972 and inside top of trunk is this sticker over wallpaper. I love it but can't find anything about it when searching. Hope you can enlighten me.
Many trunk experts here, someone should be along shortly! Welcome to CW!
Nice small sized trunk -- looks like a "Doll Trunk" -- hard to tell the size though by the picture. The patent date on the lock is July 9th 1872 -- you can do a search on the patent date and find out who made the lock. Most often the locks were bought from a supplier separate from the trunk-maker -- but not always. The patent date tells you the earliest date it could have been made -- however some locks were made for many years after the patent date. Looks like you have a partial trunk label on the lid -- there may be enough info to find out a bit more about who made the trunk. A lovely piece!
Since my grandmother was born in 1881 I assume this may have been her mother's or an older sister's. The label says The Village Blacksmith and Below that Presented by ??? it was totally covered by the waters during Katrina and everything inside ruined. Wiped it down with bleach water and it was fine. No smell or anything still..small miracle!
