Someone had this box free on a back road here in Massachusetts. I found it interesting as it seems to have been shipped here from another country. The label is French I believe, but could be Spanish, and it was being sent to what appears to be Connecticut. I don't know the year, or exactly what was in it. It's cool knowing that it shows a little bit of history!! It's all wood, and is still partially covered with what appears to be thick paper. It's 28" long,x 15" wide and 14.5" high. Any information would be great!
Looks like an American made 1870's or thereabouts trunk. There were different styles and types made at the time, top of the line, mid-range and lower quality pieces. This trunk is of the later -- more utilitarian in its time. Often trunks were sold overseas and shipped back which would explain a European label on a US made trunk. Looks like a boat label from -- my guess... Italy. The name Achille Izzo shows up on a passenger list from 1910. More info is on ancestry.com. Great piece of history -- nice find!
Thanks so much for your information! As I get older, I have a greater respect for such items. Now I have a place to start with my research!
