Dolphin Glass from Japan has been a difficult one for me to research. I have really found nothing on them and assumed it was a brand name from one of the big glass factories.

When I have looked at the other Dolphin pieces I own I leaned towards Iwatsu Glass as being a possible maker but was reluctant to go further with it.

Recently I acquired this black and clear tri lobed vase, labelled Dolphin.
I was excited when I got it because I immediately saw big similarities to Iwatsu Hineri and Art Glass tri lobed vases.

    Here is a direct comparison.
The black is Dolphin. The gold is Iwatsu.
Considering these are a hand made vase, hot worked, they are very very close.

Not proof, just lots of smoke!

Nearly as hard Gruff and with the disadvantage that very few collect it so little research has been done.

Sorry Karen, I really am not being a smart arse but I just re-read this and what I meant was I could never afford these. OMG so sorry.

Hey - I got it! One smart arse to another is OK.
I guess you are a Brit with your correct spelling of arse. Calling someone a smart ass is just not the same is it?

Looks like you nailed it, Karen, there couldn't be two makers doing this work as closely resembling each other as this. Great research! :)

I'm comfortable with the attribution Katherine...it probably doesn't meet the Czech glass people's methodology.

Oh those Czech glass people, God bless them .... lol ;)
