I don't have much information about the trunk. It has no specific markings that suggest who or where it was made. The clasps work, but the lock mechanism is broken. The leather handles are also broken.
I do know it was my grandfathers however I am unsure if it was something he brought with him when he fled Armenia or something he used when he joined the Navy.
Any insight would be great. Worth refinishing or should I just leave it as is?
Wow. April 24th is the Remembrance day of the Armenian Genocide. How timely.
That was in 1915, so I'd guess it is from that period. It looks older than WWII. And I think the Navy provided footlockers.
Your trunk was made in America in the 1880's. It is a metal covered travel trunk with a round top. Most all makers made this style so there is now way to know who made it. Many makers exported their trunks all over the world for sale, then the trunks found their way home when people immigrated to America.
