I found this document in my grand-mother's collection.

I can't read Gothic German and couldn't find out what it is except that it's quit old - from 1903.

Any one came across with something similar, or can explain what it is ?

    Thanks

    Rina

      You are correct

I don't think it is a typical birth certificate. It says that this document is only temporary and yes, it is about a child, probably born in Russia. her name is Amalia Rothstein. It would be interesting to see what is written on the left-hand side of the document but it is kind of cut off.

I also have a feeling the this is for a Jewish child.

Yes Freiheit, the child was born 1898 but this wasn't issued until 1903...? Mosaisch "Accourding to Law of Moses".

Freiheit, can you make out what is in blue on top left?

This is basically a passport page or addition to an existing passport for a 5 year old child born in Russia and traveling to Austria-Hungary.

Dizzydave, I can only read the first word. It means piece, I think.
I also think that there is more to this paper: The is a official seal on the bottom left side containing the words "Findel-Anstalt" and I believe that could refer to an institution for orphans. It's too bad I cannot decipher the whole document.

The NÖ ( Nieder Österreich)Landes- Findelanstalt was a orphan home and hospital for new born babies. Women could also give birth there. The Findelanstalt was in Wien (Vienna) Alserstrasse 23. Hundreds of thousands of orphans were taken care .
It was one the largest of its kind, in the world.

I think if we keep brainstorming, we can eventually figure out the whole meaning of this document, don't you think?

yes we could freiheit, now its your turn again!!!
