Not sure of its life's purpose, but fell in love with this svelte old hammer with its green head. Would love to know more about it what it did all these years. Now it will be repurposed to frame my paintings in the fragile antique frames I find for them. The head measures 5.25" long, and the hammer's about 9.25" from head to end of the curvaceous handle. Love it.

This falls into the general class called "tack hammers". As the name suggests it is used for tacks, and brads, and other light nails. Opposite the face is a tiny claw for pulling tacks. It's perfect for picture framing.

Thanks Uncle Ron! Everyone I've shown this to thinks it's some type of tack hammer, perhaps a 'finishing hammer'. I used it on my first frame today and it was *wonderful*. :)
