Large collection of glass negatives and positives and Albumin photos by Lala Deen Dayal

Several years ago, my family acquired a large number of stamped and hand described photos, glass negatives and positives by the famous Indian photographer Raja Lala Deen Dayal. He was appointed by the English monarchy to be the court photographer in the late 1800s. While the photographs of Raja Deen Dayal are remarkably superior in technology, in terms of their accurate reproduction, the perception of the photographer is also to be highly commended.  On the one hand he pleased the rulers by photographing them.  On the other, he did not miss the common touch.  Some of his shots of buildings and temples speak for the fact that Deen Dayal had a keen eye, not missing on minor details. We are looking to donate at least a part of these eclectic items to the right place for posterity to enjoy. Several institutions have expressed interest.

The photos above were shot on an old Palm Pilot camera. If anyone is interested in seeing more of the collection, I will take better pictures of what ever in the list they would like to see.

Here is a partial list of the photographs. As can be seen by the list of part of the collection, this is a great responsibility to figure out what to do with them.

The photos are in mostly excellent to a few just good condition on Albumim paper.
All are stamped with various Lala Deen Dayal stamps
They are hand described in pencil (very posibly Lala Deen's writing) on the back as best as we can decipher and numbered below .
They are 20x27 cm
They range in colors of tans, browns, grays and blacks. The collection is loose.

There are eight early hand made glass negatives approximately 4’6’ These are of Shahs, their wives. There are positives of a family described as “the hairy family” and Shamans etc. They are done in a gold tone.
There are between 45 and 70 glass positives of many people including workers to princes. There are also tombs, shrines, estates etc.

Another group of photos are 13x9 cm in size .
