Hi martika, this is for you. I've decided to put a separate post up for this egg. It's interesting with all the different shapes, colours. A friend of mine seems to think that some of the marks are sea-anemones. It's very heavy, I was thinking marble? I can't remember where I bought this egg from. I've just posted some new photos taken outside. On pic number 1 and 4 you can see that stone has been inlaid very skilfully, there is a third but it wouldn't show. As anybody seen this sort of work before. I've had this egg for many years and have never really taken a interest, now I'm very interested.
Any ideas would be much appreciated
    Many thanks for looking.

Very interesting! Your stone egg is full of fossils of sea creatures. I think too, it's a marble. And never saw that inlay work before on marble egg. The inlay is very obvious on the 4th picture. I will try to find more info about it.

Cool egg. You have there a piece of the ancient sea bed. Some of the creatures present in it are ammonites, the long ones are Orthoceras. Hope that helps.

Thank you Deano, for your help, I also think it's cool, many millions of years old. :-)
    7. rniederman rniederman, 9 years ago
The white deposits are probably orthoceras fossils. It's unusual to see the rock polished into an egg shape.

Superb! And so unusual in egg shape as Rniederman said :-)
