I came across at a local "Junk Sale" to use to store my jewelry making supplies. It is what I believe to be a steamer trunk. It has a lift out tray inside and a gray and off white striped interior, and the only identifying information I see is what I believe to be the key number stamped on the lock which is "g22". I was just curious if anyone might know of any information on this like maybe time period, brand, how to get a replacement key and so on, anything would be much appreciated. I am not looking to get any type of appraisal for resale or anythg. Once again thank you in advance and any information added would be greatly.

Most of these trunks look the same, the g22 is probably the model number of the chest search for excelsior trunks it looks really cLose.

You have a canvas covered square travel trunk, made in America. It is probably from the early 1900's. It is not a steamer trunk. A steamer trunk, also called Cabin trunks, were trunks that were no taller than 14" as per steamship regulations for trunks allowed in your cabin. G22 is the key code, and these are fairly common. here is a link to one on eBay. There is no guarantee it will work if the inside of the lock is broken, but it is worth a shot. Make sure to oil the lock as this will help. Hope this info helps,
