This heavy platter is over 12" across. it's thicker and heavier than my other agateware pieces. it appears to have a very good quality, thick porcelain on it. what do you think it was used for?

You'll have to excuse my ignorance if I sound uniformed, because that's exactly what I am, but can this platter have multiple purposes or uses, such as for cooking, maybe a casserole or something similar, and/or for serving, perhaps salad or sliced melon? Or is that taboo, I mean using it for more than its true, intended purpose, whatever that may be? You see, being raised in a typical, old-fashioned Japanese household, as a male, I was not exposed to, nor encouraged or expected to learn anything about the kitchen. So, I'm just guessing. But it's fun guessing, so please excuse my indulgence..... and ignorance. [;>)))
