I lived in Jungwat Praa, about 2-3 hrs from Chaing-mai, in a very old, tiny but rambling teak house in the forest in 1985. Every room in my house was made at a different time and built at a different level so i had stairs going up or down between every room. it was tiny, but beautiful and the teak was worn silky smooth from centuries of use. while i lived there, i collected a few things that were special to me. this is a betel-nut box and still smells like betel-nut. there may have been a small, shallow insert for the lime, but it didn't have one when i bought it. i have another, more traditional hill-tribe one too, but it's at my folk's place.
i can't tell what animal that is in the design. can you? elephant? cat? what?
