This is a second post (and a few more to come in the future) that is a follow up to comments and interest from @Windwalker. As background, for the past several years I have been photographing a variety of USMC rifles and historically interesting parts for my son who was a Marine (having deployed in Fallujah as a sniper squad member and returned unharmed).
While doing the photography, and my son explaining the background and history, I came to see a subtle industrial beauty and personality that you wouldn’t expect. Anyhow, I hope some of you find this as interesting as I do.
The following information is an excerpt from my son’s post on the m40rifle.com forum.
******************************
Shown here is a scarce, but very nice condition USMC Property marked Remington 40X target rifle wearing a very rare USMC Property marked Lyman Super Targetspot scope. This rifle has its original paperwork and the stock has a nifty USMC Shooting Team decal!
The Lyman scope is a 20x and has the proper USMC property rollmark. The USMC Super Targetspot scopes in the 17xxx range all have the "USMC Property" as a rollmark from the factory, USMC Super Targetspot scopes in the 24xxx range all have the "USMC Property" electro-penned onto the scope tube by the USMC armorers (at least this is what has been observed based on five scopes in my collection and all follow this pattern).
The scope also has the original screw-on lens caps, a rubber eye piece, a small sunshade and the USMC Property marked wood carrying case.
Love the fact you and your son are documenting all this ... enjoying your posts very much ,looking forward to the next post ...thanks for sharing...
