I received this trunk from a family friend and I am trying to bring it back to life. Can you tell me anything about it? Also I want to cedar line the inside but I am curious about the stamp on the lid, should I leave that alone?
also do you know of a place to buy replacement parts, it needs a hinge and both handles on sides are missing
    thanks so much
    Lori

Nice looking trunk. You could probably line the bottom part of the trunk pretty easily but the lid would more than likely be a terrible pain. If you would like to save the decorations you could or you could clean all that out and just go with bare wood or you could line it with cloth or wallpaper, the choice is up to you but the decorations don't really add much in the way of value. There are a few places online that you can pick up replacement parts as well as a few tips and tricks on how to go about working on a trunk. Ebay has all kinds of new and original parts and here are a few links:

Here's a good place to find out.

Look for Marvin Miller, he knows all about trunks and even hangs around here once in a while.

I went to a website called all experts.com there is a guy Robert Klein who was able to give me some info
He thought it was from the late 1800s he didn't know the origin but did think it was worth up to 800.00
I don't plan on selling it I love the way it has turned out we cedar lined the inside and I put a vintage material on the inside top it makes a great addition to our home
