Hello, The dimensions are 42” w x 24” d x 25” high. Iron casters on bottom. I was told it is lead lined, but it does not seem heavy enough. The lining is non-magnetic, joints are soldered, our best guess here is zinc lined. There is no key, lock does not work. Sides of base & lid are dovetailed, top is domed, sides are sloped..Hinges may be hand forged, and are attached with rivets. Not sure if paper lining inside lid is original. Thanks, Lou

Looks like it might be a blanket chest. The client prob had a number of linens and blankets treated by that laundry and used the wrapping to line the top of the chest against insects. My guess, anyway.

Definitely a zinc lined chest. The label inside tells of what its purpose may have been -- zinc does not rust so a chest for laundry use would make some sense. Sometimes zinc lined chests were used on ships. Hope this helps a bit.

I have a Zinc lined trunk/box?? It was used by a Nurse Missionary who went to China in the 20's. I learned that from the address to Canada and Chinese writing on lid. I contacted the Historical Society up there and they sent me a pic of her and her history!! She died in 1936 Maybe I'll post it when I get back home.
      She was a Great Lady.
