Japanese satsuma 1000 faces twin handle dragon pot with dragon finial and lidded and base. item is again Shimazu clan and a very good maker I just can't remember the name now dates to 1920-30. Has a small nibble to the inside of lid very minor. I purchased this with ten other objects which cost £1 each making ten pounds, there was 7 pieces of 1000 faces, it must have been someone's collection. This is my particular favourite not to say it's the best as the plates and vases look good also. I believe I will sell the collection of satsuma and I hope to make a profit on the £7 as all though it's nice I like Chinese pottery/Porcelaine more.
Gotheborg has this as mark 1092: Shimazu family crest (cross in circle) but does not identify the makers signature. Tentative date around 1940. The decorative theme is not 1000 Faces, but rather that of Kannon, (Quan Yin in China) the Japanese goddess of mercy. She is shown with Arhats, Buddhist saints or holy men who have attained perfection, hence the halos. I did not find this mark in other references.
Thank you very much I don't really like them myself, they are not something I would buy if the collection I bought was not cheap, 7 pieces for £7. They just ain't me I way prefer Chinese Porcelaine but not to say some of the Japanese stuff is beautiful cause it is stunning. I don't think I will own this collection long either.
Thanks again.
