Molded Baccarat opaline vases can be found in quite a few patterns - with spirals of grape vines, garlands of wildflowers with wild pansies, and also twining morning glories; sometimes these motifs are in multiple colors (polychrome), sometimes in a solid color, and sometimes just finished with gilt. However, I have never seen an example like this one with oak leaves and acorns. This example is also a much deeper blue than is commonly seen, and it has a beautiful opalescent paler blue interior. The base has a finely ground perfectly round pontil. This vase is 11 3/4" tall, and dates to about 1885, I believe. (Image 4 is a similar vase in the same shape as mine, but in a garland of polychrome wildflowers.)
As ever Michelle, a beautiful and unusual vase accompanied by interesting information. Thinking of Goldberg, perhaps even oak leaves and acorns were trendy for a while :)
That is lovely. Michelle you often seem to find the different and beautiful. Well done!
sklo, thanks so much - I am so glad you like it! Oak leaves and acorns may have been popular then, but they will always be trendy with me! :) We are surrounded by old Live Oaks here, and a large one dominates our front side yard; I just love them.
Thank you very much, Karen - you are too kind! :)
