Adolphus Knell is believed to be one of the sons of the 19th Century marine painter William Adolphus Knell. Adolphus was first listed as a painter in Bath then later moved to Bristol, England. A number of excellent marine paintings bearing his signature have survived and today are considered quite collectable. Over time he progressed to a more widely flowing brushstroke than the other members of his family.
Beautiful - is it that dark, or could it use a cleaning?
Celiene, It is a night scene and my picture not that great.
Celiene, Added the original picture at purchase. Much clearer.

Alan, I got a great deal. Paid less than what the original owner paid in 2007. My Jacques Ourtal painting was from the same seller as well as the scarab I just listed. He is great to deal with. Thank you for the comment.
