I have never seen a stone like this. The etching almost resembles Arabic text. If anyone has any clue to what type of work, or material this is, I would be grateful for any information. It is so beautiful, but quite a mystery. I thank you in advance for any information on this piece...

I am not sure but there was a Cameo on here with something like this material too. I thought ( maybe) like an amber that was carved == then added some type of ink rubbed into it to make the carving show up
I really have NO idea....just guessing......????
...But if there is something there in Arabic, be kinda nice if it could be translated - just to know what it says......
Arabic writing, on carnelian stone probably.
It seems the stone is older than the mount.

Carnelian carved inscription,verses from Quran. Fineness .925 would indicate newer production unless somebody wanted an old carnelian set in silver (which I doubt). They are widely made in Turkey and elsewhere in Middle East (including reproductions of Ancient Roman carnelian intaglio). With modern equipment,e.g. high rotate speed dental drill it takes a couple of minutes to engrave the inscription. The pendant is nicely hand made.
