Believe it or not, this is a bourbon decanter! It was acquired last March at the same time we purchased the three Jim Beam decanters (posted here on CW). If you didn’t know better, it could be mistaken for a very fine porcelain statue of a frontiersman’s encounter with a bear. Actually, it’s something you would expect to see as a bronze sculpture.
The composition and quality of the artistic rendering of a tense encounter in the wilderness is remarkable and something not seen in decanters. I’ve been unable to find information about this particular decanter but no matter, it’s a stunning piece.

Thanks, racer4four! ... Agreed that it's a surprise this decanter is undocumented. The seller (specialist in whiskey decanters) told me this was very rare and the only one he had ever seen. In reality, there must be others.

Hi there,,,, I have one! I just bought it for $15.00. I could not resist the incredible detail and workmanship in a decanter? I have scoured all over ,,,, cannot find anything about it,,,, I wonder if this has real gold? I did take it to a jeweler and he said he would have to do an invasive test and still may not be able to really tell me.
Hi sakura2 ... you got a really good deal. The gold could be 24k but I don't know. Yes, I agree that it should specifically be marked as gold. It is such an amazing piece of art. Would you have any guess as to the metal content and year it was crafted? I wish we could find out more information.....

Hi Florence (sakura2) ... I've tried researching the Hoffman Distillery (Lawrenceburg, Kentucky); information is scarce and vague. What I did learn is that Hoffman was bought out in 1983. My best guess is that our decanters probably date to the 1970s to early '80s.
