A friend at the co-op had been showing me a huge collection of bridal gown and theater costume sketches she had picked up at an estate sale. All were unframed but absolutely beautiful and dated from the 1920's or 30's. So imagine my surprise to see this gorgeous example sitting in the picture stacks at Salvation Army yesterday. Such beautiful colors and detail. Signed "BeaTice Miller" there's some amazing talent here! Her face and hands are incredibly well drawn. I'm not sure what ballet this costume is from but it looks very Russian to me. Originally it was quite dirty with crumbling backing and just enough loose nails to keep the glass from falling out. The back had been plastered with packing tape to keep it together. The ivory colored 23" tall oval frame was in very good shape. The delicate pink flowers with green and gold borders had minimal wear. The very heavy watercolor paper has been cropped to fit the oval frame though. What a shame ...but there's nothing online about the artist so I don't know how much that would effect it's value. A bit of glass cleaning, reconstruction work and a nice new black dust cover with hanging wire... Viola"...she's ready to take her bow once again. -Mike-
Just STUNNING !!!

Thank you Kivatinitz for the "love" and comment. :)
This is wonderful! I tried several searches and came up with a big fat zero.
very beautiful!!
Thanks Bonnie for the good old college try. I thought surely something this nice would be note worthy. Nothing in my artists directories either. There were so many talented costume artists and sadly these sketches were just tossed after the costumes were finished. Luckily this one made it home with someone. :)
Thanks Sean for the "love" and comment :)
Just gorgeous, and lovely detail in image four.
I absolutely love the colors Mike! Great find!
Thanks so much Sklo and Rick...it was a very surprising find after so many days of nothing much . :)
Great find, Mike!!!!! I've been looking around. She's a British artist,.....but no other info yet,......I'll keep at it. Congratulations!
Oh Wow!....Thanks Tony :)...at least you found her name so that means she was a known artist. Admittedly I didn't spend much time researching. Thanks so much for your ongoing detective work too . :)
I've been searching for a Beatrice Miller for over an hour now - I have to stop! All the best, I hope someone finds her.
Thanks Gillian,,,I find most art work signed or not is very hard to track down. Probably a very talented amateur just not well known. :)
