I have had this oil lamp for years. My mom left it when she died. I don't know where she got this from. She had for as long as I can remember so I have no idea how old this is. The maker left their signature on the bottom but I can't read it. I have been trying to decipher what it says for about a week now and at this point I'm not even sure if it's english. Nobody I have asked has been able to tell me what it says.

    Can anyone help me identify?

It has a Peruvian look to me, but that's certainly not a positive.
    2. Idontknow99, 8 years ago
Could you please elaborate on that?
    3. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 8 years ago
Nothing I can elaborate on. I live in the West Indies, see a lot of things from diff. areas. This just has that "peruvian look" to me. Maybe Chile, but I think Peru. They seem to have a distinct art form, but I offer nothing but my opinion to back it up. We often offer opinions to help people research the right areas instead of them wasting too much time. "An opinion" only.

I meant your ''it's certainly not a positive'' comment. Did you mean you aren't positive on the origin, or that the fact that it might be from peru is not a positive thing?

Were you able to decipher the signature on the bottom? Does it look like it's english? The symbols next to the green padding don't look like anything, from any modern alphabet I have looked at. I have also looked at ancient alphabets ( though I doubt this thing is that old ) and found nothing on there either. I will admit though, that my ''research'' only consisted of looking at the charts of various alphabets on websites. I also can't figure out what the ''E'' with loop around it means.

I think this could have been a bowl that soeone decided to turn in to an oil lamp at one point. The metal part of the lamp has no markers to identify where it came from.

I sent A picture to Heritage auctions. They told me they can't appraise it because it doesn't meet their minimum requirements. SO I know it's worth nothing, but that still doesn't answer my question as to what the heck it is.

Wray E. Tryst, lol. I tried a search for Wray but found nothing. You can ask on the FB studio pottery group page, as Celiene suggested. Good luck! :)

I got an answer from that group. Someone says is from wray and kay from seattle who do "frantic pottery". However, this resembles none of their work.

      Maybe ask here:

That pottery group is pretty sharp, if they say Wray & Kay, I'd take them at their word. Artist styles change, and Wray did/does do lamp bases. You can contact them here:
