First of all sorry about the bad picture. I found this yesterday when cleaning out my grandparents house. My grandfather had two work sheds and this was leaning up against one of them. There was only a little bit of the sign showing, most of it was in the mud but the bright yellow caught my eye and I pulled it out. The sign reads "ATLAS Portland Cement". I did some research on the company but thats about it, the company was out of Northampton PA, started around 1900 and ran till 1982. Only thing I found that resembles the sign was a reference table book from 1928 on eBay:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Atlas-Portland-Cement-Handy-Reference-Tables-1928-/390308410118?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8844194812720050250#ht_3776wt_1239

The sign is in pretty good shape, a few rust spots here and there but over all a nice piece. I'm just trying to find out a little more info on this like how old it is. I'm not trying to sell it or anything but if there is a price some one would put on it it would be interesting knowing that as well. Looking forward to any info anyone could provide.

Do you see any chips any where? or is it just thin and you see some paint chipping. Becasue I cant tell from the picture, but If this was porcelain, it would be more valuable.

I left the sign at my parents house so I can't check it right now but when my dad and I were looking it over we noticed where the rust spots were my dad said it was enamel because how the paint had crack lines and didn't chip off.

I'm not really sure how to tell if its porcelain or not. I'd really like to find out what year its from.

I would think that since the 1920's book has the same logo, it maybe from the late 20's or the 30's. It's probably worth ( this is a guesstimate) maybe 75 or 100 dollars... If it's porcelain, because I think oilman is right cause I can see some chips at the base.

I found that there is an Atlas Portland Cement museum in Northampton, PA and I was able to contact the curator, he said the sign could be dated 1900-1931 because after that US Steel took over. Not sure what that means. I'm going to assume that because of the 1928 book I found on eBay with the same graphic that its probably from the late 20's. Pretty cool find for me and its in great shape for being that old
