My mother traded her cathedral chairs for this painting about 15 years ago. I thought she was nuts because the chairs were really cool. But she insists that she got the better deal. The painting is unsigned from what I can tell and it has nothing on the back like others I have seen. It is a nice picture and painted well. As you can see the frame is damaged. I have not been able to find any info on the net. If anyone can help with an artist or value that would be great. Or maybe just a better way for me to do more research. Thanks in advance!
Thanks Savoy!
you didnt mention if the picture frame is original to the pic. After checking a very similar painting, I believe it is Dutch. There is a reproduction artist named Clausen who does great Dutch art paintings.
Im not implying that yours is a repro, but it is a place to start looking.
good luck.
Thanks cis2you, I am unsure if the frame is original I know that when my mom got it this is the frame it was in. Mark thanks for the love!
Very nice, I suggest you show it to someone who can identify the vessels. At least that would narrow your search down to a country or region.
Thanks Spackova, I will do that. I will Let everyone know if I find out more.
Vincent Van Gogh, did a series of smalls, they were boat beach seens, "The Beach of Scheveningen," is an oil painting that was completed in 1882 and uses the same flag and style of boat. Not saying this painting of yours is a Van Gogh; just the age looks late 19th century to early 20th and boats, immigrants in america are a higher dollar. Think Mom did real well on her trade.
Thanks papa, I'm sure its not a VanGogh that kind of luck is drained with all the little luck I have:) But it would be pretty awesome if it was.
Beautiful!
