I started collecting these years ago.
I know that the clear ones with metal flowers are around late 1800's and the colored ones in the 1920's but still no one can tell me the maker.
I found most on line in the Pennsylvania area and know several glass companies burn down then.
The red and white swirl pitcher, and probably the blue pieces as well, are some sort of Ozark Glass, likely Smith's Old Timer or Becraft. They date from the 1960-70s.
I wouldn't be surprised if the clear with metal pieces were also Smith's or one of the other Ozark companies.
There is an excellent reference on OZARK ART GLASS by Curt Martin that gives a rather thorough examination of this sort of glass. I have had a chance to look at it again now and I can tell you a little more about what you have.
The metal decorated crackle glass vases were made by Central Glass Company of Pocola, Oklahoma. The other pieces, unless they are labeled or marked, are a bit more difficult to pin down. There were several related companies making very similar ware in the Pocola - Spiro - Fort Smith area - the largest ones being Central, Scott Depot, Becraft, and Smith's.
Pieces could date from as early as the 1950s but heaviest production was in the 60-70s. Most companies were out of business by the mid-1980s.
All my crackle glass books date the ones with metal flowere on the as late 1800's that's what I was going on. The deep ruffle on all the vases except the bud face are the only distinguishing factor except they are all blown glass. The color vases are not crackle glass. There are several books with these in them but still no one has put a name to them.
Thanks I'll look up these, I've been looking in the wrong places. Lol
Oklahoma is in my back yard lol should have guessed lol
I marked as solved. Just to think all these years and money on books that didn't know glass. Lol
I spend less than 24 hours here and found out two mystery.
Great site thank you all.
Is this the name of the book
OZARK ART GLASS by Curt Martin ?
OZARK ART GLASS, A Collector's Guide by Curt Martin was a digital publication offered for sale in 2008 direct from the author. I don't know if it was ever issued in printed form. I checked just now and there is no contact information given for Mr. Martin beyond somewhere in Arkansas.
This is an excellently researched and extensively illustrated reference that hopefully won't be too difficult to find but I just don't know about its availability.
Try a google search.
Thanks have tried google search and nothing. Which means I'm planning a trip to Arkansas to see if I can find anything there????
Yeah, I tried Google and Amazon too. I can't be the only person that bought one of these so maybe one will show up on ebay. Otherwise, good luck in Arkansas - Fort Smith is nice.
The vases I found on the internet were all marked. None of mine are. Do you think the ones marked are reproduction?
I don't know - I would need to see the mark. Very little of the Ozark glass was marked. Only Smith's Old Timer Glass used a permanent mark, and then only occasionally. Everyone else used foil-over-paper labels.
