Hey everyone!! I'm into old lanterns, oil lamps and other glassware, but I have a question about one of my lanterns. First, I'm not sure about the maker of my lantern or how old it is; the only marking I've found was on the oil container which says Vortex, and the fresnel glass has a hint of purple to it. Second, it looks as if someone painted it black (except for the very top where the handle is) and I was wondering whether or not to carefully remove the paint to get it to its "original" state or just leave it as is.
I just got a lantern very much like yours and have the same questions.
Have you learned anything in the last four years?
Exactly where does it say Vortex? I can't find any writing.
Are you sure there is an oil container? Mine is a candle lantern.
Hi,
What you have there is a boat or sailing ships masthead or anchor lantern that would usually be used at night when the boat was moored or anchored offshore.
It looks like a Perko lantern. I have one like it.
