I saw this beautiful object peeking out of a box which had just been brought into the thrift shop. It went from the box to my hands. This charger measures 13 inches across and weighs about eight pounds. The design is that of an engraving by Jan Luyken.

About the artist:

(translated):
Jan Luyken was a Dutch engraver, artist and poet. He was born in Amsterdam on 16 april 1649 and died in Amsterdam, 5 april 1712. From 1677 he began to concentrate on etchings and engravings. He made his name as a brilliant etcher in 1680 with 24 illustrations from the book "Oorsprong"( Beginning) , a story of the Dutch wars , a popular history book published by Pieter Bor . Luyken is also known for his moralistic prints. Luyken's etching demonstrate a great plasticity by the targeted shading of the figures and the invented use of groups of persons with respect to each other in order to enhance the spaciousness of the landscape. You can see in his etchings the liveliness of foliage and smoke and flames which give realism to a work entitled "Celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles and the Law on Mount Sinai".
There one or two other ones by Jan Luyken, but not one like this on the web. The only JDD is in Haarlem and it's a design furniture business from 2014.
Thanks for coming over!

Wow, the detail!
That's pretty amazing. Did you clean it or find it like that? I found one called the Plumber but it looks rough. Good eye and great find and info.!! :)
OGF - it was like that when I bought it - only a bit of dust on the back edge. I normally don't buy things like that because they are usually cheap and crappy looking, but this one is gorgeous.
NB - you could look at it for hours, eh? :-)))
Just love it - it's stunning!!!
What a really nice charger plate!! And an incredible deal at that!
Thanks, all~! I have hung it on the living room wall, next to my chair. :-))))
Simply gorgeous Bonnie!
