    Hello again CW friends!!

Here is the interior of the Crouch & Fitzgerald of New York ladies' hat trunk that I just posted. It is nearly 100% complete with the exception of one missing hat pin cushion.

As you'll see, it has removable hat pin cushion panels (which I thought was truly unique), should you have decided to travel without hats, and Crouch & Fitzgerald even provided a hat pin, tied to red ribbons, for each individual pin cushion. Now, that was a classy touch by Crouch & Fitzgerald.

I usually don't find these with complete interiors and was simply thrilled to find this one nearly complete.

Thanks for stopping to have a look!!

    Scott

      fleafinder,
Thanks for the comment and the love! Though hat trunks were quite common back in the day, this was a bit different from the other hat trunks. Some folks refer to these as "Half" trunks. Thanks again and thank you for stopping by. Always truly appreciated!!

      Karen,
Thank you so very much!! I was totally surprised to find this one in such pristine condition. I've only had that happen on 2 other occasions throughout my trunk collecting years. Thanks so much for the lovely comment, the love and for taking time to stop by. Always a true pleasure to have you drop by.

      Drill,
Thanks friend!!! Those are some really cool photo links! This trunk is probably the best built trunk that I own. While cleaning this one up, I was just in total amazement at how well this one was made.

You will have to settle for a picture of the workers and a C&F Horse drawn wagon
    20. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
Very cool!! How about those striped C&F aprons they're all wearing? That crew built some incredible trunks in the day. Thanks for the cool links!!!
    21. Drill Drill, 8 years ago
Your welcome yes they did, I have a good number of C&F patents bookmarked I'll
see if I can find the interior hat trunk one.
    22. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
I'd love to see one that shows these removable panels with the hat pin cushions attached. I've not been able to find anything related to those. Thanks again Drill!!

Maybe the patent is in the packing case. it has slide outs.
    27. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
      Drill,
I looked for a patent and was unable to find one on this one. These are very cool patent links though!

      Here is the handle patent
    29. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
Very cool! So, the end caps are attached with a single rivet. I thought about replacing the missing handles and decided, after some deep thought, that I'd leave it just the way it is.
    30. Drill Drill, 8 years ago
Some thoughts, I would give it a try, the back penetration of the rivet would be hidden by the hat holder panels, maybe a 1/8 inch or smaller pilot drill bit to remove the rivet head on the handle cover. I might even consider a small screw(Cheating) in place of the rivet and and the Dremel grinder(Carefully grinding) to disguise the the fact, that it is a screw.I suggest this technique only when the wood around the existing rivet can not support the new handle.
    31. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
I've actually considered that Drill. I have some screw post in my shop, in an assortment of lengths. I may give those a try. Here's an example of what I have in my shop. I have these in steel and brass plated steel. I just used some metal discoloring solution to take off the shine when complete.
