This is a great group of characters found in an 1870s era tintype.
The one many is missing his leg, but appears pretty active with his peg leg. In his belt he carries a tomohawk, large skinning knife and a long stem clay pipe. I don't know if he was a former soldier, victim of an animal attack
or how exactly he lost that leg!
The others in the group appear to be his "running partners"-- not sure just what these guys were involved in.

Cool pic Scott........
Thanks much for looking record!

The guy in the top hat looks SOOO out of place there. Quite a rugged bunch they are. Very interesting...You should have it made into a poster and sell them online--You'd make a bunch~!
It also appears that his right hand was mauled or burnt or something...doesn't look right to me. Tough times in those days!
Wouldn't want to meet this lot in a dark alley..a really great photo!...:-)
Such an interesting photo!!!
Now, that is one very cool pic!! Some rough looking characters there. I love the wicked looking prosthetic leg.
Nice photo Scott!!
Thanks much loumanal-- I think his hand is just resting in an odd way.
scott
Thanks Thomas-- poses such as this are very common in 19th century groupings of family members/ workers, etc...
I wish that there were some identifying marks or documentation that told the "story".

Thanks for looking buss and gatekeeper.

I love this! This is really a great photo, and it's so interesting to see the guy without a leg, and how they essentially made a prosthetic leg for him, wow!
Thanks cultcha, crafts and oldworlde!

The guy in the white suit is the boss. He runs a tough crew of hard men who trade with natives for beaver furs. The furs are made into beaver fur top hats, an example of which he is wearing. The guy on the left, his best trader, was mauled by an angry wolverine. He fought it off with his tomahawk. He has finally recovered, and they have been at rough and tumble bar drinking to his survival, and decided to get a photo taken together to commemorate it. The wolverine was skinned and stuffed, and sits above the bar. Two of them are named Charlie, and the others are Bill and Angus.
Good story-- I see those type of stories often presented as facts when these type of images are offered for sale.
Thanks for looking and posting!

The two standing look like they are related.
Could be roddy-- thanks for looking and commenting.

Smashing piccy love the detail of the characters thanks for sharing Scott
Where'd his left hand go?
now that i've been looking at it for awhile, i see quite a resemblance in the three on the left. i think they are related. the other guy could be too, but maybe not.
Thanks cultcha-- could be related. I usually steer clear of facial comparisons-- it can lead to a famous ID!

Thanks malkey-- appreciate you looking and commenting.

No matter what their story is, can't say their a trusting group.
Interesting characters indeed! I’m sure they have a few stories to tell.
Five years after the end of the Civil War so I’m guessing A War injury ...
Injured man Has learned to
have everything with him so
He won’t have to get up ,to get anything
The person taking the picture sure was steady I would have been shaking in my boots looking a that group!!!!
Thanks for looking vinyl and stuff.
scott
Thanks for looking keramikos.
