    found this tool and don't have clue what used for. It appears to be modified - screw holding "holed" cylinder isn't flush or seating right. cylinder spins like it is to be rolled. has brass flange on head and seems well made. got it out of old box that had a vintage maple syrup tree tap. clue?

      Looks like it was exposed to moisture, doing whatever it did.

      Maybe a texturing tool? Maybe for an artist. Probably not I'm just guessing.

      The HANDLE appears to be from an old grinding wheel truing device. They have a series of star-shaped "washers" of hardened steel that revolve on the shaft and you hold them against a running grinding wheel to wear it back to it's original smoothness when it gets irregular. I have no idea what that cylinder would do.
