I am presenting this piece as an unsolved mystery of mine. I do not even know what to call it, and I haven't been able to find anything similar online. It is very heavy, all wooden. Can anyone help with this one. I am stumped and I really don't know what else today as this has been frustrating not being able to find any info about it. There are no markings that can be seen. It seems to be pretty unique. But I would love to hear some opinions and possibly find an answer to the questions that follow: How old is this piece of furniture?what kind of wood is it made from? Who was it made by? Any specific purpose? What its aproximate value would be?(not necassary)
What would this piece of furniture would be called? And any other details one might be able to share.

Yep, agree with Kyratango, sheesham is probably more likely as it looks solid throughout. Mahogany would be veneered.
Thanks for all your replies. It is solid throughout. That is actually part of the reason I was stumped is because the fold out part(aparantly where the shoes goes), as well as the rest of the piece, is extremely solid and heavy. I suppose it could be for shoes but then again I still haven't seen another with actually cubby slots but instead I see just rows without the divider wood columns.
Mostly I still do not know how to call this piece. I agree that it is fairly modern. Though it looks a bit like mahogany, it must be sheesham, because it is not veneered. Thanks again for your comments and advice, you have been very helpful!
Mahogany species from Asia are usually solid construction due to low material and labor costs. So don't always rely on that advice.
An aside about exotic and tropical woods, take care sanding unknown woods when refinishing, some wood dust can cause irritations and reactions to those that breathe or come in contact with it.
