I was given this trunk by a family member years ago and was thinking of either refinishing or painting it . Does anyone have any suggestions or at least know what year these were made and what kind of trunk it is ? I know very little about them . Thanks .

Your trunk is called a Dresser Trunk (Made in America). Many different manufactures made these. The corners should have a patent date on them of April 5th 1898, so your trunk is no older than that to the early 1900's.
      Hope this helps,
      Jim
