These iron devices (tie-downs maybe) were in the trees on the farm we inherited. They weigh 30-40 lbs each, were mounted a wood platform. About 14" tall, 10" wide. A railroad does run through the property, but that's my only clue.

Thanks, Thomas, for the welcome. Just discovered this web site. We're getting ready for an estate auction, and I have a couple of other mystery items to post.

Well Thomas, did you ever see any of these hanging in trees ? LOL ! Maybe in SD, they "shoot" these like "shooting anvils" that we hear about but never see or can confirm. Centre seems to be a shackle, so maybe a cable passed thru with an insulator thru the holes. There are holes in the shackles ? This is one worthy of CW, aka CyberAsylum. Welcome, - I hope! And just when I was catching up on sleep.

What is stamped on the bottom plate between the bolts (YBA???) ?

Wondering if being "mounted on a wood platform" is significant? Now! Where do they "shoot anvils" ? LOL !

I should have taken a close-up of the stamping, will do that tomorrow. As mounted on the platform/plank, they were sitting as I photographed them, but about 5' apart.

Mystery solved! These are apparently part of the bar scale system that was in an old wooden grain elevator that had been on the property. We also found the selector wheel and a couple of 60,000 lb capacity Fairbanks scales. I couldn't find any exact pictures of these particular items, but the old grain elevators definitely had some heavy duty hardware!

Great ! Can I get some sleep now ?

I can relate; good idea! Thanks for the input.

      Those Fairbanks were high quality.
