I have a small rectangle shaped plate that measures 7 3/4" X 6 1/4" and about 1" deep. The back stamp is a combination of the Royal Doulton Crown with the lion, crown and ‘intersecting D motif, and with the words ‘Royal Doulton’ and ‘England’. Under the circle with the interlocking D's is a 5 point star and under that the number K8907. Those marks are embossed into the china. Over top of this mark is a Royal Albert Old Country Roses bouquet of the red, yellow and pink roses. Lower down on the plate is the Old Country Roses ROYAL ALBERT Made in England and the copyright mark. There is also what appears to be four square boxes embossed into the china above the Lion, and each box has a letter. I can make out 3 of the 4 letters S A A , the last box and number are covered with flowers from the bouquet. Has anyone ever run across this type of layered stamp. And does anyone know why there is a star and number, or why it has the 4 boxes with letters in them.
Has anyone ever seen the Royal Doulton mark with the 5 point star and numbered or ever seen the mark with the 4 square boxes with a letter inside each box?
This is probably a newer piece, as Royal Doulton and Royal Albert were both taken over by a huge company, among a others like Wedgwood, a few years ago- KPS Capital Partners
They probably had some Doulton blanks and, due to the recent renewed popularity of the Royal Albert’s pattern Old Country Roses, the made new pieces. I see a lot of the pattern in new pieces in the stores.
Does anyone know what the 5 point star and the number K 3907 mean or the 4 square boxes with the letters S A A in the first 3
I have one of these 2. My late mother in law had on in her collection. She had bought it from TJ Maxx im just not sure when.
