I found this at a garage sale this weekend. I love smalls and thought this was a cool little piece. I could not find a date, hoping maybe someone could help me figure that out. The tin has a match strike on the bottom. I don't know if that helps date it? Thanks for looking.

I have a Prince Albert tin in the same style that I have dated to around the early 1930s.

Nice piece. I have an old prince albert can that's never been opened. Still has the tobacco in it.

This is the last version of the Union Leader. The earlier ones have an “Uncle Sam” variation not to be confused with the actual “Uncle Sam Brand” see link: http://www.mygerardinc.com/images/vtins/stu/u/unclesam.jpg
Some of the Uncle Sam’s were wider than the normal pocket size.

There are “Free Sample” and “Complementary” version of the Eagle type, which are uncommon. There is a rare Eagle version with a hand holding a pipe on the backside.
This rare one is very elusive since the front of it looks just like all the rest of the Eagle type. One of these days I will have the Union Leader page set up on my website at:

When I was a bit younger we used to carry our fish worms in these tins. Throw in a little dirt and a mess of night crawlers and the tin would fit in your hip pocket.
