Porcelain bisque vase, about 8" tall, narrow opening. From grandmother who may have acquired in 1920s or 30s? Bisque finish except for pastel colors on girl, which are shiny fired glaze. Apparent crack on back appears to have been there a long time. Makers mark plus number(?) on bottom.

Found more info! Mark is a G with 2 downward arrows, from Grafenthal, Thuringia in Germany, the mark Carl Unger used for Unger, Schneider & Cie from 1875 and later.

Piece is Porcelain Bisque Spill Vase (used to hold rolled paper or wooden spills, or tapers to light fires).

Since all my grandparents families originated in Germany, I am assuming it was either brought over or attained and used in late 1800s for the original purpose.

I've got a Pinterest board with more pics of bisque spill vases that are similar. http://pin.it/ELjBibf

I do love German bisque . Such detail , yet today it is worth very little . My first thought was a spill vase . It is beautiful .
